Below is a brief summary of the route that the Dakar Heritage Tour takes you on. The specifics may vary a bit depending on availability/planning.
The total route is about 1300km with 6 riding days, averaging about 200 km each day.
Day Zero. Arriving in Senegal.
Upon arrival in Dakar, a personal transfer will whisk you away to the charming town of Warang (about an hour’s drive), where you’ll be welcomed with a locally distilled Liqueur de Warang—a perfect introduction to the region’s flavors. After your warm meet-and-greet, it’s just a short 5-minute drive to the hotel, where you can unwind, organize your luggage, and settle in. Take your time to relax, perhaps enjoying a delicious dinner featuring local specialties. In the evening, you can enjoy a peaceful walk along the beach, a quiet moment by the pool, or simply rest and soak in the serene atmosphere of your surroundings.
Day one. The first ride. 60km
After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, we’ll gather for a briefing on the upcoming adventure, covering the route ahead and ensuring your motorcycle is perfectly adjusted for a comfortable ride. We then set off south, heading toward Joal Fadiouth, where you’ll have lunch on the shores of an island entirely made of seashells. After enjoying a delicious meal, you’ll have the option to explore this unique island, stroll along its paths, and take in the sights. Once we’re back on the road, we continue south to Dangane, where we’ll park the bikes and take a traditional wooden boat across the Sine-Saloum Delta—a stunning National Park unlike any other in West Africa. As we arrive at the lodge, we’ll enjoy a beautiful dinner at sunset, the perfect end to a day full of adventure.
Day two. Further south. 170km
After waking up to the symphony of birds unique to the Sine-Saloum Delta, we’ll take a small pirogue back to our bikes and continue our journey. Today’s route takes us around the Sine-Saloum Delta, the largest delta in the world and a UNESCO National Park, with its vast wetlands and vibrant ecosystem. We’ll ride through expansive salt farms and cross the impressive new bridge at Foundioune, before stopping at a charming colonial-era maritime city. Our journey then leads us southward toward Toubakouta, where we’ll tackle our first real piste africaine—a thrilling off-road section that will introduce us to the raw beauty of the land. Toubakouta is an authentic African village, tucked deep within the oldest and tallest mangroves of the delta. As the day winds down, an unforgettable sunset will be our reward after this exhilarating first day of true African riding.
Day three. Pilgrimage North. 250km
To Dahra by Kaolack and Touba. Leaving Toubakouta, we will cruise the National 5, the oldest connection road to The Gambia. We pass by Kaolack, which is an important historical trading city for West-Africa. We’ll explore the old colonial sites, like Gossas train station, on our way towards the Holy City of Touba. Touba is a key West-African pilgrimage destination where plenty West-African gather in the best known mosque of Senegal, and one of the biggest mosques in the continent of Africa. We spend the night near Dahra, north of Touba and at the gates of the African planes for the following day.
Day four. To the border. 300km
Riding from the serene shores of Lac de Guiers to the historic town of Podor. Our route winds through Richard Toll, a lush town known as “the Sugar Capital of Senegal,” where you'll pass vast sugar cane fields and colonial-era ruins, remnants of a once-booming French agricultural project. . The final stretch leads us along the Senegal River to Podor, a once-thriving trading post and fortress town, where the restored Fort de Podor offers a glimpse into the region’s rich past at the edge of the Sahara. Expect scenic rides, authentic encounters, and a deep connection with Senegal's cultural and natural beauty at every turn.
Day five. Fleuve de Senegal. 222km
The adventure continues as we follow the winding path of the Senegal River from Podor to the vibrant city of Saint-Louis, tracing the ancient trade routes that once connected West Africa’s great empires. Leaving Podor, where traditional fishing villages dot the riverbanks and life flows with the rhythm of the water. A stop in Dagana, known for its rich Wolof culture and colorful markets, offers a perfect opportunity to experience local crafts and warm hospitality. As we push south, the landscape transforms, leading us toward the colonial elegance of Saint-Louis, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its narrow streets, creole architecture, and lively music scene. This stretch is a true blend of history, nature, and culture—perfectly experienced on two wheels.
Day six. Epic finish. 285km
Our final day on the road is nothing short of legendary, as we ride from Saint-Louis toward the iconic finish line at Lac Rose—famous as the dramatic end point of the original Paris-Dakar Rally. The journey takes us through ever-changing terrain, including a thrilling final beach stage. As we near Lac Rose, the landscape flattens into a surreal salt lake whose vivid pink hue shifts with the sun—an unforgettable backdrop for our victory ride. After celebrating at the lake’s edge, we begin a relaxed liaison to Saly, where a well-earned night awaits: cold drinks, a charming hotel, and an epic dinner to toast the miles, memories, and magic of our Senegal adventure.
Day seven. Max Relax. 0km
On our final day, we’ll ease into the tranquility of La Petite Côte, a stretch of coastline where the Atlantic meets golden sands. After a week of thrilling rides, today offers the perfect opportunity to unwind. Take a leisurely break beneath the African sun, enjoy the warm breeze, or dip your toes into the refreshing waters. For those looking to explore further, the Bandia Reserve awaits—a safari experience where you can spot Africa’s wildlife, from antelope to rhinos, roaming freely in their natural habitat. Alternatively, you might choose to visit the charming town of Somone, famous for its peaceful lagoon and authentic fishing village atmosphere. Whether you choose to relax or adventure, this day is all about soaking in the beauty of Senegal’s coast before we wrap up an unforgettable journey.
